It took me an extra week to complete (blame Summer!), but I finally finished my prototype Triple Zip Bag!
This was the U-Pick Project that you voted for this month, and I’m so excited about how it turned out!
You can see the inspiration photo and the other possible contenders on our U-pick tutorial voting page.
As promised there are three separate zippered compartments, yup, THREE!
Some of you suggested making the two outer zippers open in one direction and the middle one open in the opposite direction. Well, I intended to make all three of my zippers open in the same direction, but I didn’t pay close enough attention and one zips the other way. Oops!
That’s why this bag is just my prototype. I used it to work out the construction steps and make sure the materials that I chose would work.
When it came to the size and shape of the bag sides, I took inspiration from a previous U-Pick Project, my Pretty Box Pouch, and used the same pattern piece.
I also used techniques taught in my free Designer Zipper Bags Video Course.
It turned out approximately 5’’ x 7’’ - so perfect for a cross body bag! As you can see, I deviated from our inspiration bag by adding d-ring tabs on both sides (not just one side) so I could attach a cross body strap. Of course, if you’d rather just have one d-ring and a wrist strap, that works too.
I’ll write up the Triple Zip Bag tutorial as soon as I can. Sign up for my free newsletter so you don’t miss it!
