I had so much fun experimenting with this cute cosmetic case for our U-Pick Sewing Project this month!
If you remember, this was our inspiration pouch. It has a frame inside it to help it keep that unique shape at the top.
I wanted to see if I could achieve a similar effect without using any special hardware - just fabric, fusible fleece stabilizer, and a zipper.
Oh, and I used a cork fabric scrap for the label - which I didn’t sew on straight! :)
The top part of my case isn’t as rigid as the inspiration case, I imagine, but I love the shape anyway.
The corners fold down and snap on the outside of the bag (kind of like my Zola Pen Case), and this makes an easy ‘handle’ to grab the case from either end.
I experimented with different ways to sew the zipper and then the sides of the pouch so that the ends of the zipper would remain on the outside of the case.
In the end, since the zipper extends past the top of the bag a little bit on both sides, the bag opens up nice and wide to hold lots of items.
My Cute Corners Cosmetic Case (tutorial coming soon!) will be really fast and easy to sew, and fat quarter friendly!.
