I've been on the hunt for pretty pillowcases for a while now. The problem is, I'm not fancy enough to want to put away our sleeping pillows every morning and only have throw pillows on the bed during the day. But I guess I am fancy enough to want my bed to look nice when I go to the effort to make it.
Update: the DIY Ruffled Pillowcases tutorial is available! xoxo
I solved the problem by sewing cotton pillowcases with a long ruffle on one side. They are simple enough that they are comfortable to sleep on (and washable), but still pretty too!
There are ties under the ruffle to hold the pillow in. At first I thought this feature would be a waste of time, but it's not!
The ties are the secret sauce to making the pillow looks so nice - they pinch the plain part of the pillowcase together to give it that nice shape and let both sides of the ruffle cascade down together.
I'm working on a tutorial for this pillowcase. It should be ready soon! :)
In case you were wondering about the embroidered pillow that's also on my bed, it was a project that I designed using Hatch Digitizer. I showed how to digitize mandalas from coloring book designs in this video.
Now it's your turn to show off what you've been sewing up. What have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.
