Update: The pattern is ready! Grab my free Pillbox Pouch Sewing pattern here. ❤️
Last month, while Christmas shopping, I kept seeing adorable pouches in all the stores and I was so tempted to buy all of them! I even put one or two in my shopping cart because I just couldn't resist a cute little pouch, and then I'd think, 'these would be so easy to sew.' So I'd put them back.
Seriously, that happened about 50 times over my holiday shopping, friends! After a while, I started taking iPhone photos of those pouches (sometimes with my kids helping me get all the angles, lol). So now I have an iPhone full of zipper pouch ideas and I might make 50 different zipper pouch patterns this year!
My Pillbox Pouch sewing pattern was inspired by this photo of a men's utility pouch. The original was bigger than mine and made with more rugged fabric. I might try that sometime, but I totally love my smaller version.
To go along with my new year's re-SEW-lution of using up scraps, I made three different pouches (once I had the pattern nailed down). My pouches weren't made from scraps (although you could totally make them from 9''x10'' scraps), but I experimented with different scraps of interfacing on the inside to see how it changed the pouch's structure and appearance.
My purpose was to give you a pattern that you can sew up using whatever you have on hand... provided you have a zipper, some fabric, and something to give it structure!
What 3 different materials do you think I used on the inside of these three pillbox pouches??? I'm going to give you a chance to guess in the comments below and then I'll tell you exactly what it was when I share the pattern with you on Monday. ❤️ Hint: there is a lining and on 2 of the 3 I added quilting!
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.
