Thank you, thank you! What for? For voting for this adorable cross body tote in our Pinterest UnTutorials challenge this month! I love how adorable, easy, and fun this project is to sew.
As you can see, my version is pretty similar to our inspiration picture, except that I decided to use strip piecing on the exterior to give it a pretty quilted look.
I was totally inspired by these fabrics from Riley Blake. They are Lori Holt's Bee Basics 2 1/2'' strips.
The boxed bottom of the bag means that it will stand up all by itself. The pieced strips help to measure where fold it to make this sweet little triangle at the bottom.
I used a metal zipper and will show you how to keep from breaking your needle on it. But if you want to use a nylon zipper, that's fine too.
Next week I'll write up the tutorial - including how to foundation piece the strips to make it so easy and fast! I'm also going to show you how to make that cute little tassel that I attached for a zipper pull.
Why??? Well, both of those techniques are featured in my latest Craftsy class...
The Quilted Tree Skirt! The talented crew at Craftsy did such an amazing job on my video class that I can hardly wait to show it to you. And believe it or not, it is only going to cost $10! Save up your fabric jelly rolls, ladies - the Quilted Tree Skirt releases next week! :)
