My wall of mini quilts has a new addition to it - can you recognize which one?
This is our adorable mini quilt for July! It is called Ladybug Liberty and it was designed by the talented folks over at Fat Quarter Shop. Did you know they publish all kinds of books, quilt patterns, and tutorials (see lots of free quilt patterns here)? I knew they would give us something super-sweet and I'm so glad I asked!
Ladybug Liberty is one mini quilt you are definitely going to want to sew. It's my first patriotic quilt and I'm so proud of it! Whether you give it a red, white, and blue flair or mix it up with a different color story, it's sure to delight.
We're getting the pattern ready and will post it here on Monday - make sure you come back!
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.
I must admit that I have made some pretty silly, downright dumb projects before. But sometimes my projects turn out so amazing that I am simply in awe. This is one of those projects. I LOVE this handy pouch!
Did you know that animal shelters often use small quilts or blankets (called cage comforters) in the animals' cages to provide a soft bed and a sense of security? It's a great way to use up leftover pieces of fabric and batting and make something to help our furry friends at the shelters. It's kinda funny how I learned about this project...
You had 3 fun ideas to choose from… a clever drop in tote bag organizer, a modern fanny pack/sling bag/hip pouch (or whatever they call them these days!), or a comfy bed for your favorite pet.
Can you guess which project won the vote?
I decided to sew myself a new little card wallet using all the same steps that I share in my free Designer Zipper Bags Video Course.
I also decided to use my serger machine for quilting and embellishing the sides of the pouch and for finishing the seams. A serger isn’t necessary for this project, but I had fun using it.
The Huddle Quilt is a fast and easy pattern that’s perfect for large prints because it makes them the focal point. Plus there is plenty of negative space to let the eye enjoy your favorite fabrics even more.
Sew yourself (or a friend) a cute tote bag that has a unique braided strap and a cell phone pocket on the inside! This free tote bag sewing pattern includes the pattern pieces and a step-by-step photo tutorial so anyone can make it.
And… here’s my favorite part: My sister Kat is coming with me to be my assistant and we are enrolled as students for all the other classes!
How could I go otherwise? I refuse to be left out of the fun just because I will be teaching two days.
What's a tea towel? Can you use it in your messy real life kitchen? I think you should be able to. So last year I made my own version using some of my favorite fat quarters (only because they come pre-cut to the perfect size) and I love them! The two layers of cotton are not too thick, which I really like, plus the more I wash them the softer and more absorbent they become. Not to mention that I get to brighten up my kitchen with beautiful fabric!
