This little blog 'experiment' that I thought might last a month or two is getting bigger and bigger. I had to make a Pinterest board for the 'Solved Un-Tutorials' because now people are emailing me asking where to find them, lol! Who knows how many we will solve? So from now on, you can find all of the 'Solved Un-Tutorials' here.
Un-Tutorials are those sneaky pins that lead you to believe there's a tutorial behind them - and then there's not. Or maybe there's a bunch of pictures with no real instructions that you can understand. Those kinds of pins are so common that I gave them a name and started a Pinterest board.
This month I know we all need sewing projects that are fast and easy - plus something something to keep the kids happy and busy so we have summer sewing time, right? I hope you like the projects I picked... they are all for kids - or the kid in all of us. ;) And... I did get a few complaints last month that tote bags and wallets always win, so nothing else has a chance (he, he). That's why tote bags and wallets are conspicuously missing from the vote this month. But don't worry. At least one of each will be back next month.
So now it's time for YOU to vote for the Un-Tutorial that I'll solve (aka write a new tutorial for) this month! Note: click the photos to see the original pins.
The idea for this adorable octopus plushie was emailed to me by Terra L. This guy is all over Pinterest, but I can't find an actual pattern or tutorial. I even did a Google image search and came up with a big wild goose chase. Have you seen a pattern? If so, please leave a link in the comments. If not, maybe he will win the vote and we will be sewing one up this month!
UPDATE: The owner of this photo emailed me. She doesn't sell patterns, but she does sell amazing stuffed animals and such in her Etsy shop BigStuffed.
Heather P. emailed me asking for this card holder to be in our UnTutorials vote. I can totally imagine (or at least wish for) my kids playing Uno all summer if I made them 4 of these. I found a bunch of foreign language websites with this picture, but still no pattern or tutorial, so I think it's 'fair game' (I'm so punny, lol) for a knock-off. Will you vote for it?
And finally, I saw this 'beary cute' pillow on Pinterest that led to an unavailable item at Pottery Barn. That figures! Now the only way to get one is to sew it yourself. If this won the vote I'd totally give you both a regular applique version and a machine embroidery applique version because you know I am obsessed with machine embroidery right now!
So what will it be???
Remember... you only have a week to vote! Whatever project wins, I'll be sewing my own knock-off version and then giving you a tutorial the week after that. So vote below for the project that you'd like to see me sew!
Next Wednesday voting will close and I'll announce the winner. Then I'll get started sewing it up. On the 3rd Wednesday this month I'll share pictures of our finished project and soon after that I'll share a tutorial of my version.
P.S.... Lots of people will assume I picked these projects because I couldn't find another tutorial for them. They will send me links to similar tutorials. Before you do that, read my opinion on the subject:
1. You might find similar tutorials online to the ones I am suggesting.
2. I'm writing this blog series mostly to have fun with my readers and to find out what they want me to write next - not really to write a tutorial for something that hasn't been written before.
3. I love to see how different bloggers put their own spin on easy projects.
I hope you do too and you decide to keep reading!
