My oldest daughter turned 12 this month - she's almost a teenager! I'm torn between loving our new friendship (that includes sharing shoes and discussing books) and battling new behaviors like eye rolling and selective hearing.
Anywho... she loved the bags I sewed up when I was working on my free Arial Tote sewing pattern, so I decided to make her a special one for her birthday.
You might recognize these embroidered roses. They were the first design I stitched out on my new Janome Memory Craft 14000 (see my unboxing post here).
Chloe really loved that black piece of linen with embroidered roses on it, so I used it as the body of the bag. I'm not convinced that linen is the ideal choice of fabric for this pattern because it's not very durable, but hopefully it will be okay.
The bottom of the tote and the circle details at the top are sewn from black faux leather, which is a great choice because it is super durable.
Chloe LOVES the tote and takes it everywhere with her so mom mission accomplished!
Oh, and don't you hate how people with embroidery machines are always looking for excuses to embroider everything??? LOL. These are some journaling bookmarks that I made for the young women in our church (including my daughter) that I personalized with their names.
It was a last minute project so I made it super simple and easy. I even took pictures for a tutorial that I'll post really soon! No worries if your sewing machine doesn't do embroidery. Those lucky people can sew a dividing line down the pocket so it has two cute spots for pens! (I'm sure you know that anyone can skip the embroidery and sew two pen pockets, but I'm pointing that out anyway).
Okay - your turn! What fun sewing projects have you been working on this week? Show us in our Show Off Saturday Picture Party! We love works in progress too.
