I remember my mom taking my brother and I trick or treating on Halloween when we were was 6 and 7 and collecting lots and lots of smarties and dum-dums. Then afterwards I would trade with my brother to get all of his smarties in exchange for my dum-dums. Because smarties make you smart and dum-dums make you dumb, of course! Fortunately that's not true because he turned out to be a brilliant engineer.
And I still love smarties. That's why I absolutely ADORE the mini-quilt that Heidi Staples of Fabric Mutt designed for our Monthly Mini Quilt series... it's called Candygram!
If you're worried about time this month, let me tell you that I stitched this up in an afternoon from start to finish! Have fun fussy-cutting your tiny rectangles and learn to make flying geese units if you haven't already.
Oh, and see that gorgeous bundle of Flutter & Float (from Blend Fabrics) in the picture at the top? It's the bundle that I'm giving away this month along with the free mini-quilt pattern! I used Flutter & Float for my print fabrics and binding, and Kona Snow for my background fabric.
Here's my mini-quilt wall so far... with 2 quilts! Are you sewing along with us? The Candygram quilt pattern will be posted here on Monday along with the giveaway. Find last month's Friendship Mini Quilt pattern here. Or go ahead and check out my Pinboard for all the the mini-quilt patterns so far plus other tips and inspiration.
Remember, on Thursdays we're posting pictures of reader's quilts from the current month only, so email me (caroline(at)sewcanshe.com) pictures of your Candygram quilts during February and we'll post them for everyone to see. It's so much fun to see the creations of quilters from all over the world!
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.
