I'm busy unpacking and getting ready to show you more about how we built my 36' desk (post coming Monday), but in the meantime I wanted to show you this awesome new iron that the folks at Reliable sent me... the Maven 100IS.
I picked this iron because of it's amazing steam output and it's adorable shape and look that reminds me of my vintage Little Hottie iron. I first saw it at Spring Quilt Market in SLC and to tell you the truth, I kept going back to play with it, lol!
The Maven is connected to a boiler with almost a liter capacity, so I can get LOTS of consistent steam. To give you an idea of how much steam, let me just say that stetting the Maven at 1/4 pressure gives me the same amount of steam that my previous iron gives at full steam. Impressive.
Even though I prefer a dry iron for quilt piecing, I have found plenty of applications for the powerful steam function. Like getting the folds out of my mini quilts so I can hang them on the wall, (it gets the folds out of new fabric and pre-cut pieces too - yay!)
The little quilt above was blogged here.
Making my own super-flat bias binding (that little tool on the left is my Clover 1'' bias tape maker),
And fusing interfacing. I have tried gridded interfacing, woven interfacing, and fusible fleece. The Maven iron fuses like nobody's business. I'm not kidding! Combined with the consistent high heat I'm getting, my tote bags are going to the next level and I'm so excited about that.
(In case you are wondering, I'm using adorable Retro 30's Child's Smile prints from Lecien to make another Speedy Patchwork Tote. This is so I can finally write that handle tutorial that I promised - sorry!)
One last thing to note: there is no auto shut off. Before you write me an email telling me how dangerous that is... let me say that I HATE pressing, sitting down to sew, and then finding my iron is off when I need it again. Sometimes that happens 9 or 10 times in a day and it drives me bonkers! I have no problem remembering to turn off this iron with it's bright lights anyway. And I that might be my favorite feature.
If you have any questions about the Maven 100IS, check out the Reliable website or leave them for me in the comments. I love how fast and easy it makes pressing!
Now it's your turn... what sewing related thing will you share with us in our Show Off Saturday Picture party?
Remember, you don't need a to have blog to add your picture and show off something you made this week. Just leave the 'link' field blank. But if you do have a blog and want to add a link to your picture, great! The most clicked link will be spotlighted here next Friday.
I would love it if you shared our linky party on your blog... here's a button to make it easy.
And don't forget to share the love and visit some of the other fun blogs in the party.
Please, no links to items for sale. Those links will be deleted. Thank you!
