I finally got around to some selfish sewing this week. And FYI, to me that's not a negative term! It means I took a little time to sew myself a treat - and tomorrow I'll be back to sewing for the people I love.
Lately I've totally been crushing on the new digitally printed fabric that I see people wearing. I wanted to get my hands on some, but I didn't know where to find it. Luckily someone from MyFabricDesigns.com emailed, asking if I'd like to try some fabric - and they have gorgeous digital designs, so I said, 'heck yeah!'
This fabric design is from their gallery of available prints, and I picked the modern jersey. It's silky smooth and drapes wonderfully so I knew I had to sew up this flowy asymmetrical tee shirt from Ottobre Design issue 02/2013.
You can also upload or create your own fabric designs right there on the My Digital Designs site.
It is totally my new favorite tee shirt.
When you use a huge print like this on clothing, you have to plan a little bit how it will look on the garment. I traced my pattern pieces onto tissue paper that I could see the fabric through, and then I moved the pieces around until I liked where the blossoms would appear on the shirt... what I did not want was two big blooms front and center, lol! Since this fabric has 4 way stretch, it didn't matter if I ignored the grainline arrows on the pattern.
So what have you been working on this week? Visit my selfish sewing archives if you want to do some too. :)
