This past week I had the chance to review a DIY baby quilt kit from itty bitty Handmade and I had the most delightful time playing with it!
The kit came in a pretty box (Cadie nabbed it on Friday for holding her school Valentines!) and contained everything I could possibly need to make a quilt - except a pair of scissors & a sewing machine. And I'm sure you could hand sew and quilt it too if need be.
The instructions that came with it were clear and easy to understand... I kept thinking what a wonderful gift this kit would be for anyone who would like to make their first quilt: a mom, auntie, a new dad, a grandma or grandpa... seriously anyone.
When I first heard about it, I was sure there would be nothing new to me in the itty bitty handmade quilt kit... but I was wrong. I learned a simple and amazingly easy basting technique using white glue and a sponge brush. No pins, no thread basting... just glue! And it was very effective. Following the instructions exactly, I straight line quilted this little darling from the back side. And there was not a single pucker or pleat in the quilting.
When I was done, I needed to wash the quilt to get the glue out and it turned wonderfully soft and cuddly.
All of the fabrics are beautiful and quilt shop quality (I can tell the difference). I'm pretty sure I recognized some Cotton+Steel basics and Michael Miller Cotton Couture.
Look at this cute 'handmade by' label they included... You get to tell them what name you want, and they hand stamp it on the label. My dilemma now is that it says 'handmade by Auntie Caroline.' but I don't know how I can part with it - I love it so much!
You might notice that the binding is different from other quilts - it's a facing, actually. And it makes a soft and cushy edge, perfect for a baby. But my baby is 6.
Will this do? :)
And here is the whole quilt. I know this is turning into a very long post, but it was just so much fun taking pictures of this adorably easy quilt.
