Ya'll know how much I love the holidays... and I practically sew for Christmas all year long, lol! This week I made a Raccoon Softie from the PDF Pattern by Mariska of DIYFluffies and it turned out too cute for words!
This little rascal finishes at about 12'' tall and Mariska says the skill level is Intermediate. I would agree because there are quite a few pieces to cut and sew, including some hand-sewing. On the other hand, if you love hand sewing you could easily sew this pattern all by hand, which is nice.
I used a FQ of Cotton + Steel fabric (X Dot Navy from the Penny Arcade Collection) and some Boundless Cotton solid in Porcelain for the body. The nose, eyes, and stripes on the tail are wool blend felt.
Mariska uses black felt for the eyes and stripes, but I thought it would be fun to try fuchsia. I love it!
The PDF sewing pattern is very easy to follow and contains all of the pattern pieces twice! Once set has seam allowances included, and the other set doesn't so you can trace sewing lines right on the fabric.
I decided to use the pattern pieces without seam allowances so I could trace on the fabric. It made sewing the pieces together so simple. I learned some other sewing techniques from this pattern too, and I'm so glad I tried it.
Now I just have to decide which pattern from DIYFluffies to try next! These are my top three, but there are over 100. :)
So, what have you been sewing up this week? Did you make something with one of my free sewing tutorials or patterns? I would love to see! Tag me on Instagram @sewcanshe.
