Are you sewing along in our Just For You Sewlebrity Sewalong? Each month we're treating ourselves to a little 'selfish sewing' by stitching up the projects in the book that Sarah Markos and I collaborated on: Just For You. Our book contains 24 items that are fast and easy to sew, and lovely to use.
The projects we are focusing on this month are my two favorites. They are the Saturday Night Tunic and the Topstitched Belt.
I designed this tunic/dress to be as simple as possible. I didn't have a name for it until one Saturday night I really wanted something new to wear to church the next morning. Less than an hour and a couple yards of Anna Maria Horner voile later - I had this dress that I wore under my Swoon Scarf Neck Cardigan. That's when I named it the Saturday Night Tunic (or Dress) - because you can easily sew it up in one night. The pattern is the same as the Quilting Bee Dress, but this version has shirring at the empire waistline instead of a drawstring.
Here's one that Sarah made. She wore it until she was 7 months pregnant and beyond!
Of course, you can sew it as either the top or dress version. You will love it either way.
And this project just happens to work beautifully with the other project for this month - the Topstitched Belt.
This is another quick-and-versatile piece that you will want to wear all the time. And all you need is a little bit of fabric, topstitching thread, and 2 rings (O-rings, D-rings, rectangle rings, or curtain rings!). A quick belt like this puts the final touch on any outfit.
And if you think my topstitching looks familiar, well, you're right. The technique that we share in Just For You is the same one that I used last week on my Day Off Back Pack. You'll be so glad you mastered it while making this belt. :)
So check back next Wednesday when our first Sewlebrity blogger for August will show us her Saturday Night Tunic (or Dress - I'm not sure what she'll pick). Who is it? The darling Caroline of Sew Caroline! I've had the pleasure of meeting her in person and I walked away tickled pink to share the same first name with someone so talented and nice.
If you're sewing along with us, come join our Just For You Sewlebrity Sewalong Facebook group where Sarah and I are available to answer your questions and everyone shares pictures of their projects. We do giveaways now and then too! :)
