I felt bad taking up lots of space on Saturday (since the linky party is supposed to be about you too!), but I really want to show more about how I made Elijah's little backpack... so here it is a few days later. :)
First I cut out the monster applique with my amazing little Slice Cutter and the Monster Design Card. I was having so much fun that I let my boys pick out their favorite monsters that I'll stitch onto whatever I make for them next. Maybe underwear, lol! I didn't cut out eyes because I like to sew them on with my sewing machine (see below).
The last time I did applique that required lots of different colors of thread, one of my readers suggested invisible thread. Thank you!!!! This was such a time saver. I'm not sure I would use it for a really beautiful applique... but for a quirky monster it was perfect.
I also tried a new kind of stabilizer... Stitch-n-Sew perforated sew in. It's kinda fuzzy on one side, so it stayed in place fine. I loved how easy it was to remove afterwards.
I think people forget that applique is embroidery... using stabilizer helps your stitches look so nice!
See the invisible thread there... it kind of looks like really fine fishing line.
And here he is with his eyes sewn on. I played around with that bead looking stitch until the 'beads' were round. Then I sewed just one on each side with black thread. Fun!
