So this is my 'keeping it real' post. Because we did the herringbone quilt block sewalong in January and it's now May and I have just barely finished my quilt. And because I don't have the free-motion quilting skills that I wish I did. But I love my latest quilt.
After I finished up the blocks in January using this fun tutorial, I added a solid border which coordinates with the back of the pillow that I already finished using scraps from this project.
I love the fact that I now have a matching big pillow and little quilt to go on my bed.
See, the pillow has the same red on the back.
Anyhow, back to my quilt... I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried a swirly wave free motion quilting design, which didn't turn out as nicely as I had hoped. I must be spending too much time gazing at award winning quilts and now I want mine to look professionally quilted too.
But I am consoled by the fact that it is mine. I have grown to love my own handiwork with all of its flaws. This very morning I sorted through my daughter's dresser getting rid of clothes that don't fit her anymore, and I had such a hard time putting the things that I had made her in the 'goodwill pile.'
Are there any other late finishers from our 'It's a New Year Sewalong'? If there are, send me a picture and I'll add them to this post here at the end.
