I think that listing all of my WIP's on Thursday really helped me to narrow my focus on one thing and get it done... and it helped because everything else was put away. As you can see, the first project I took out to finish was my Emmaline Bag and I couldn't be more pleased with the way it turned out.
I started with these gorgeous fabrics that I picked out from Michael Levine (lowpricefabric.com). The bird print is of course a Japanese Echino linen cotton blend by Kokka. It was my main inspiration for the tote. I chose the Robert Kaufman Yard Dyed Essex Linen for the handles and I just love this fabric too. It is also a linen/cotton blend. And the lining is a cotton print called Hello Tokyo from Robert Kaufman. SewCanShe fans can get 10% off their purchases at lowpricefabric.com through 12/30/13 with coupon code sewcanshe10.
This is one of those projects that I could tell as I worked I was going to love the finished product.
The Emmaline Bag pattern was easy to follow with lots of step by step pictures. I love her style of showing you her way and then giving suggestions for adapting it to your own tastes. She shows you how to make two different kinds of pockets, which of course you can choose to put in or not. There are different strap options too. And I really like bags with unique hardware... I think it makes them look polished with hardly any extra effort on my part. You can find fun hardware for this bag in the Emmaline Bags shop or you can buy curtain rings at Lowes like I did. :)
There are so many ways to make up this bag, and she provides tons of examples at the end of the pattern.
I would so love to keep this sweet purse for myself, but I'm also so excited to send it away in a Christmas box for ??? Really? You thought I would say who? She's not going to find out until Christmas day (evil laughter).
So... what have you been making? It's time for the linky party and I want to see your projects! Remember, you can link to your blog, your facebook photo, flickr, instagram, whatever. And the most clicked picture will be spotlighted next Friday. Yay!
