This week a friend of mine asked me to help her personalize some beach towels for her grandchildren. Aren't they great???
And I didn't need an embroidery machine or anything fancy to make the applique letters. Well... I didn't need anything fancy to make these but I did decide to cut the fabric with my Cricut Explore Air.
I ironed HeatnBond lite onto the back of my fabric pieces...
And cut out the letters with my Cricut. See how that USB cord is just sitting there not connected to anything? I used my computer's bluetooth connection to communicate with it! So easy. (Pssst... you can use the Cricut iPhone app to design and cut things too!)
Then I ironed the letters onto the towels and satin stitched (a very short stitch zig zag stitch) around them. The trick to a pretty satin stitch is usually to use some kind of embroidery stabilizer (I like the iron on kind) on the back. But these towels were thick enough that it wasn't necessary.
And embroidery thread. I LOVE using embroidery thread for applique projects.
Now I just need to give the towels back to her... I hope the kids love them!
And now it's your turn... what have you been sewing this week? Show us below in our Show Off Saturday Picture Party!
