I've been working so hard on my girls' Easter dresses lately, that one day this week I needed to take a break from it and sew something completely different - an 'Easter Dress' for myself. And I knew exactly what fabric I would use. I recently got this charcoal polka dot jersey from The Fabric Market. I can't find it now, so they must be all out. But now I'm tempted by new fabrics they didn't have before... it's terrible! The Fabric Market has an amazing selection of apparel fabrics: jersey knits, wool, gabardine, satin, minky, and more - all at amazing prices. And I even received a partial refund on my shipping cost after my fabrics were sent.
The obvious project for this soft and comfy knit fabric is probably leggings for the girls. But I loved the fabric so much that I wanted to use it on myself. Since the dots are a bit playful (maybe a lot playful?), I knew I had to be careful with my pattern choice. I didn't want to end up with a dress that looked like it belonged on a 7 year old.
So I picked a TNT (tried n true) pattern... I think it's my third time to make it already.
It's the Classy Cowlneck Bodice, the Classic Sleeves (3/4 length), and the Radiant A-line Bottom (knee length) from Jocole's Women's Mix & Match series. . I made a size L and it fits perfectly. The cowl neckline is nothing short of genius. It's beautiful and you don't sew it really, so you can't mess it up. The whole dress took me less than an afternoon to cut out and sew. Love that!
Plus I have a yard of the polka dot fabric left so my girls might still get cute leggings. :)
So, what about you? What have you been sewing lately? It's time for our Show Off Saturday linky party so please share!
Remember, if you decide to post your picture(s) online (like on facebook, flickr, or your blog) the linky page will let you enter a link to the page where it is so we can visit it.
