I use my iron as much as I use my sewing machine. And I know I'm not the only one. Having a good iron makes all the difference in my book, so I was super-excited when Panasonic contacted me and offered to let me try their new 360 Degree Freestyle Cordless Iron. Panasonic is a sponsor of QuiltCon 2015 and since I am a MQG member and have a quilt hanging in the show (I guess), they picked me to get this iron, yay!
I've been using it for the past week, and I can honestly say I love it. So here's my honest review:
My first impression: it's tiny! And light. This iron has no cord. It sits in a base (that does have a cord) and re-heats every time you put it down.
On the right is the back of the iron where it plugs into the base. Surprise! it's not square. There's another point. So you can iron any which way you want. So cool.
The size makes it just right for getting in all the hard to reach places on clothes and those awkward seams on tote bags that need to be pressed.
I can totally appreciate the water tank that comes off so I can take it right to the sink instead of bringing the water to the iron. And look... shake, shake, shake! Full tank and no drips.
My one concern when I saw that it's cordless was whether it would stay hot long enough for me to get my work done. Well, it does. I pressed a whole bunch of wide bindings with no problem. I actually burned my fingers a few times, the fabric was so hot. I never thought about it before, but I normally put my iron down every 10 seconds or so to re-adjust the fabric. The Freestyle 360 Cordless Iron re-heats in just 8 seconds, so cooling off has not been a problem. I did need to move my ironing board so the base would be on my right.
And that's it... Thank you Panasonic for letting me try this sweet new tool!
