This week I finally set aside some 'selfish sewing' time and I made myself a summer dress. To be honest, I was killing two birds with one stone, so to say. C&T Publishing sent Sarah and I another draft of 'Just for You' to review and along with it all of the pattern sheets. I had to make sure that they got my dress pattern right, right?
I grabbed some of this yummy orchid-colored cotton gauze fabric from my stash (which I bought before the radiant orchid craze) and stitched it up in just a couple hours. I love how easy gauze fabric is to shirr - and how comfortable it is to wear. It's wrinkly all the time, but that's how it's supposed to be.
And I love this purple color so much. It reminds me of these flowers we saw at the beach last week. It looks so perfect with the aqua fingerprint necklace Chloe gave me for Mother's Day.
In fact, I loved the aqua and orchid colors together so much that went to the nail salon and asked to have my nails painted that color. Yes, the nail salon. It's my one weakness. And now I think I have to wear the dress every single day to go with my nails. :)
In the book, this is actually a tunic (the 'Saturday Night Tunic') and it's featured on the cover. Yay! But I give instructions and the pattern for making it into a dress too. 'Just for You' is only on pre-order right now, but your local fabric shop should have it this fall!
My new summer dress is so comfortable, it's worth changing out of pajamas for. Already it's my favorite thing to wear while I sit and watch the kids during hot summer swim team practice. Here in Florida, temperatures are already scorching in the shade.
So, what did you make this week? Come link up and show me!
