This morning my husband asked me to actually get off the comfortable couch where I was checking facebook and iron his shirt. I started thinking of how stereotypically rude that was, but then I thought of my new iron, and how fun it would be to use her again, and writing this I realize you must think I am totally crazy.
I mean, I'm the one who commiserated with you on our sewalong facebook page about how I absolutely hate ironing unless it is for sewing.
But let me tell you about my new Oliso Pro Iron. I brought her to our Sewing Soiree and she was the most popular girl there...
People were a bit shy towards her at first, of course. They were unused to her strange ways... Like the way she stands. It's awkward at first because she stands in the horizontal position, not vertical like the rest of us and other irons. But that makes her oh, so safe.
'Go ahead,' I told everybody. 'Shake the ironing board. Bump it. Shake it hard. She won't fall down.'
That's when people lost their shyness and wanted to get acquainted. They walked up to her and touched her soft handle just to see her move down into action. Surprised and delighted 'ooohs,' and 'ahhs' were heard from our ironing station.
The next time I walked by we had a discussion about the proper weight of an iron and how the Oliso Pro is just right. Nice and heavy but not at all hard to move.
So back to me and ironing my hubby's shirt this morning. It was so soothing and calming. (I know you're thinking, she was just perturbed by the request and now she's feeling calm?)
Well, my dear Oliso heated up so quickly I barely had to wait. She's so nice and hot. Immediately I started thinking about how my last iron was not nearly as hot as he thought he was (I've decided my last iron was a 'he'). I mean, I would set him on 'high' for this very same job and he could get only the easy wrinkles out. I would need lots of starch to get even medium duty wrinkles out. And lots of starch eventually meant a crusty dirty faceplate that ruined my sewing projects. Ugh!
So I started thinking about writing this review and wondering who the Oliso Pro iron is for... why she's for people who love ironing like me, I thought. What! I don't love ironing, do I? I must be under the influence. I used to hate all ironing except during sewing. [Because of course ironing during sewing makes your projects a gazillion times better so who doesn't love ironing during sewing?]
So... (my thoughts carried me away again), the Oliso Pro is for people who hate ironing. Because I used to hate ironing, but now I'm under the influence of an amazing iron and it gives me some kind of high to use it. Case in point: I went from perturbed and annoyed to calm and happy in under five minutes.
Probably because of the way that you can iron right off the edge of a project and then lift your hand up.
That's when Oliso stands up by herself. You don't have to stand her up. It's hard to get used to and difficult to explain but quickly addicting.
Then I started thinking about safety, About my expensive ironing board. About how two years ago I rushed out to target and bought the most expensive ironing board they had - the packaging claimed that it was sturdy - because my pre-schooler had bumped my old ironing board, knocking the iron down, burning the carpet and sending my brain into nightmares during the day about how I could actually be rushing to the hospital with a severely burned and scarred child instead of just out to get a new ironing board. And when I got home with it the new expensive ironing board was JUST AS WOBBILY AS THE OLD ONE! Grrrr. But it had a cute cover so I kept it.
And now I don't worry at all about someone bumping my ironing board because my sweet Oliso is not going to fall off. She's just going to sit there (for up to 30 minutes), waiting for me to come back and iron some more. And if I make her wait for more than 30 minutes she will figure I got pulled away from my project and she will turn herself off to keep me and my family safe. Love that girl.
I'm thinking I better end this blog post soon before all of my readers think I have totally gone of the deep end. If that is you, go to your local quilt shop (hopefully they carry these marvelous irons) and ask for a demonstration. You can also learn more about the Oliso Pro on her website {here}. Go ahead. Be surprised and delighted.
And don't miss out on our fun giveaway from The Sewing Loft... it's the last day to enter and there will be three lucky winners! {enter here}
xoxo,
