My oldest boy turned 10 this week and what he wanted most was a digital camera. What I wanted most was to sew him something... we both got what we wanted. :)
My first thought was to make him something fanny-pack style so he could carry his camera around without swinging it in a bag [crash] or on his wrist [drop]. Then I remembered that last year we had a backpack get a hole in the bottom and before I threw it away I salvaged all these really cool pieces. They've been sitting in a zip-lock bag waiting for the right moment.
The fabrics I picked came from Fat Quarter Shop... it's Art Gallery's Squared Elements (the outside) and Pure Elements (the solid flap and lining). Love those fabrics! I think they're perfect for a 'tween' boy.
I followed the instructions to the 'T', except instead of making a little tab and wrist strap, I used the waist strap and buckle that I had cut off the backpack. Once I had adjusted them to my satisfaction, I sewed one end into each side of the pouch exterior. It was a little tricky close to the end when I was sewing the lining and exterior together because I had to shove the entire strap inside. But it did fit. And he loves his little case!
So... what did you sew this week? It's time for the linky party and I want to see your projects! Remember, you can link to your blog, your facebook photo, flickr, instagram, whatever. And the most clicked picture will be spotlighted next Friday. Yay!
